My Story Began in the Midwest

I grew up a stone’s throw away from the expansive freshwater blue of Lake Michigan, and from early on, my life was marked by ever-evolving creative endeavors. At one age or another I’ve attempted everything from directing homemade movies starring my kid sister and me, to hand-scribbling journals full of poetry and song lyrics, to countless hours fretting guitar chords in the solace of my bedroom. Taken together, these pursuits ultimately led me to study Video Production at Michigan State University where, unbeknownst to us at the time, I met my future bride, Abigail Marie—but that’s a story for another time. :)

Upon graduation, a twist of fate swept me overseas to Istanbul, Turkey where I invested four years of my life working for a nonprofit, teaching English, and exploring a new geography, language, and culture. Against all odds, Abby and I reconnected after four years apart, and in 2012 I made my way out to Colorado with nothing but a couple suitcases and a guitar in hand. We were married on a summer day the following July, and it was through the process of experiencing our own wedding celebration that the profound possibilities of storytelling through photography began to take root in my heart. So it is that I find myself having come full circle back to the creative longings which have always sparked within my soul.

For me, life comes down to a precious few things: Jesus, my wife, and loving others well. I believe our days are endless and numbered, nothing is guaranteed, and yet this world is brimming with such beauty and wonder on every side. I consider it truly an honor to document these stories of life, love, and adventure. So how about it: coffee or drinks, and a chance to swap stories and explore what we could create together. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How would you describe your style?
I am drawn to the simple beauty of natural light, honest and intimate moments shared between a couple, and a sense of wonder and adventure in this amazing world we inhabit. I approach portraiture from a lifestyle mindset where I provide intentional direction as needed, and for most other wedding day events I work as a photojournalist documenting real moments as they unfold with artful composition and careful attention to light. In short, I strive to create imagery that matters, evokes emotion, and connects with others on a heart level.

We'd love to book you. What's our next step?
Bookings are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis, and I require a signed contract and retainer to hold your date. Please inquire through my contact page for availability and current rates.

What is included with a wedding photography collection?
Every collection includes an online gallery, handcrafted edited images, and a print release. Weddings Collections start at $3500. Please inquire for additional information.

Do you charge extra for travel?
An additional travel expense (airfare, lodging, etc.) is incurred for weddings greater than 50 miles from Denver. This cost is always discussed and agreed upon during the booking process, and is clearly delineated in every contract.

Do we need a second shooter?
Booking a second shooter is never required, but doing so may be wise in certain situations (e.g. for getting ready photos if your locations are not in close proximity, and for weddings with many guests and/or activities to document.) My wife (read: secret weapon), Abigail Marie, is my primary second shooter. Not only does she know her way around the camera, she's also gifted at working with people, she comes up with the most brilliant ideas, and, simply put, we just make a great team. In extenuating circumstances due to location or availability, I bring in other talented photographers with a similar style as my own to collaborate with.

Do you have insurance?
Yes, State Farm covers my gear, and all my liability needs. I am happy to provide documentation to your venue if necessary.

What gear do you shoot with?
I shoot with professional Canon gear, and I always carry a backup camera body and flash to ensure I am ready for the unexpected.

How many images can I expect to receive?
For a wedding I deliver approximately 400-600 final edited images commensurate with the number of hours I shoot.

How long does it take to receive my images?
During the summer wedding season, I require 6-8 weeks to deliver final images due to the heavy workload. At all other times of the year I strive to turnaround final edits within two weeks.

Can I post my images online, and order my own prints?
Absolutely! Your print release authorizes you to share your images on social media, and to order your own prints however you like. If you are interested, I do offer some incredible fine art prints, and heirloom-worthy hardcover storybook albums.

Do you shoot projects outside of engagements and weddings?
Yes, while I do not currently feature non-wedding images on my website, I have shot everything from professional headshots, to family and newborn sessions, to lifestyle and editorial work. If you are interested in collaborating on a non-wedding related shoot, please email me directly at alex@alex-priebe.com to start the conversation. I'd love to hear from you!
